TV Review - Doomsday Preppers

 Doomsday Preppers

Note: hands do not make decent gas masks.
Yes, it was a pretty infamous day when I got to watch a special advanced episode.  9/11 was a wake up call to Americans that they had to be prepared for danger whenever and wherever it strikes.  But even through the horror, there was hope in the spirit of human nature.  That's the positive spin on the new show that focuses on death and destruction.

"Get off my property!"
Prepare for Sept 17, 2012 as Doomsday arrives!  Doomsday Preppers, that is.  It's a new show on the National Geographic Channel about (almost) run-of-the-mill people who believe that the end of the world is nigh and what they have been doing to prepare for it.
The lights are a romantic touch.
Four sets of American folk display their techniques and plans on how they'll cope with various types apocalypses that will fall upon the planet.  It could be solar flares, an economic disaster, an earthquake... they all think they have the their bases covered when it comes to food, shelter and defenses.  The show has experts rate their survival skills and evaluate their accomplishments.
Indoor fishing!

The premise is relevant with the Mayan Calendar doomsday prediction but the presentation could have just a little bit more sensationalism.  These regular joes and janes take their predictions seriously and most have noble intentions.  Aside from protecting their own possessions and territories, most of them have contingencies to help their fellow man and neighbors.  It seems slightly uniform though as the initial set in the episode are all rural based with three of the four being family-oriented.  Some variety would be nice.
Safe as houses.

I wouldn't mind at all if there are Preppers who are armed to the teeth for a zombie apocalpyse or an alien invasion or a vampire infestation, haha.  It may be mocking them on what is, to them, a serious case of survival syndrome but, who knows?  What if they're right?  Offering basic tips on how to endure a doomsday scenario would be helpful... just in case.
Hope they have television...

Watch for Doomsday Preppers on Sept 17, 2012 at 9pm at National Geographic Channel.

The format of the evaluation is two pluses and one minus followed by an aftermath video that expounds on their improvements.

I knew the big guy had problems with his health.  He needs to be more fit!  Interesting Faraday cage though.

Yes, everybody will point out that the second couple uses Filipino.  I love how they know morse code and sneak arond in their house at night as well.

The 'hippies' were awesome.  They won't resort to violence and would share their food with scavengers who might attack them for their possessions.  Their half naked neighbor is kinds psycho though.

The family unit at the end might be in trouble if one of their members get incapacitated.  What happens with the weapon maker dies and he's the only one who knows that?  Or the fuel gatheres are injured?  They should share their survival skills around to be more well-rounded.  I'd love to know how to make bows out of pipes.
